O-Calc File Corruption

I encountered a problem with my line design file becoming corrupted. Every time I try to open the file up, this message pops up.

"O-Calc Unexpected Error

Root element is missing

Source: System.Xml

Target Site: Void Throw(System.Exception)"

This problem occurred when I switched to a different pole to view. The pole never loaded in and that's when it became corrupted.

Can the file be recovered or is it lost forever?

I checked in the poles using a different file for the time being.

I'm sorry to say that if the file is corrupted, it is most likely lost forever. You can email the file to me at slantry@osmose.com and I will take a look at the xml data to be certain.

@admin I just want to tag on to this corruption phenomena because I was interested in why it was impacting certain users quite frequently but not others. There seems to be some correlation with the users who use the Auto-Save feature having this issue more frequently versus those that don't. Maybe unrelated but a possible avenue to check out.

Line Design constantly writes to the hard drive because the amount of data in a Line Design file is too large to fully load into RAM. Therefore, depending on where your files are saved, system settings and errors, and numerous other factors, your files can become corrupted.

One example of this is saving your files on your desktop or documents folders, OneDrive will lock your line design files during periodic updates which can cause corruption or loss of work, even crashes in O-Calc. For this reason, we recommend saving all files in a folder directly on your C:\ Drive.

Pole data can also become corrupted during upload or download from portal, due to network and security settings beyond our control. There may be a sudden drop in network connection, or a manditory refresh of security credentials, in the middle of an upload or download the cuts off the data and corrupts the files.

If you can find any reproducable steps that will always result in corrupted files, please report that in the forums. It will be extremely useful in finding a way to prevent loss of work in the future.
