Could the portal plugin be updated so that I can search multiple poles from different locations at once and assign them to myself without having to find the poles on a map first? If not, my only solution is to find each pole I need in the map view, check it in if necessary, then reselect the poles again to check them out.
There are several different query options you can use in any combination to reduce the number of poles you are looking for. Without being familiar with your specific project, it is hard to suggest what combination would be best to help you find the poles you need. From the process you are describing, there should be a more efficient way to find your work using existing tools. Can you give some additional details on how you are assigned poles?
Thank you for the insight. In my case, with PLA's, I may have to look up poles that are not in sequential order. So my options at the moment are to wonder the map, select each pole, check them in, then repeat the process to check them out in my name for a line design. Designers don't typically update both Helix and Portal, so the In PLA status is not usually an accurate way to filter down poles either.
There should be some sort of application name, assignment ID, or some other group identifier you can query or filter on. The information in your visibility can be customized in portal so if it is not currently included, we can add it to your project. Can you check with your supervisor to see if there is some value you can search on that will bring up all the poles assigned to you?
We will eventually add the ability to search for multiple values, but it requires a large amount of effort. In the meantime, it would be good to have a workaround that can help you be more productive until that is possible. We will also be releasing an assignments tool in the next update that supervisors can use to group poles for bulk assignment.
